Do I need a permit for a wedding at Joshua Tree National Park?
If you are planning a wedding in Joshua Tree National Park, you will need a special use permit. The cost of a wedding permit application is $120 and it is non refundable. The Joshua Tree National Park Service permit office hours are Monday – Friday 7:30AM – 3:30PM. The National Park Service also has a list of non-permit days to pay attention to.
You can also apply for permits by filling out the application forms on the Joshua Tree National Park service website. Keep in mind, your photographer, videographer, and caterer(s), will need a separate Special Use Permit ($120) for themselves as well. Although the costs may add up, without a permit, there is a $500 citation fine, so keep this in mind when planning your wedding!
While acquiring permits is a very easy process, it’s also a slow one, so be sure to allow about a month from application to receive your permit.
Questions to ask your host if you’re planning an Airbnb Wedding

Here are some questions you may want to ask your property host about, prior to holding your micro wedding there!
- Is the property handicap accessible?
- Does your area require any special permits?
- Are there any extra fees to host your wedding?
- Is there running water? Are there enough restrooms for your guest count? Keep in mind that older properties may have older pipes – this could result in sewage backups, so its always a good idea to check in with your host beforehand.
- Can the kitchen accommodate catering staff? How big is the refrigerator, will it work as a storage space for our catering?
- Can you move inside if the weather is bad?
- What is the parking situation like? Are there Ubers in the area and is your property easily accessible if arranging transportation around the area?
- How will trash be disposed of?
- Are there any limitations on volume? When are your quiet hours?
- Do they have any recommendations for photos?
- Do you offer seating options or seating arrangements? Some Airbnbs will offer special outdoor seating for ceremonies. Be aware that if your venue does not provide seating complimentarily, you will need to bring your own rentals.
- What dish ware/utensils do they have available? – If you don’t like theirs, consider bringing your own!
