How do I apply for a wedding permit in Maui?
When eloping or holding a wedding in Hawaii, permits are essential. Hawaii is quite strict with their permits, and all public sites – including any beaches or parks, will require a special use permit to elope. The exact form can be found here and you can see here for more information on commercial activity in Hawaii.
All beach weddings require a permit in the State of Hawaii, and some locations, such as Kaanapali Beach do not allow ceremonies at all. The State of Hawaii values conservation and as such, implements leave no trace (LNT) policies at their public sites to preserve the environment.
As long-time Hawaii wedding planners, we can help guide you through the permit application process – from site visits to liability insurance, we’ve got you covered!
As a tip – your photographer will require an additional permit to shoot and film your ceremony, and can receive this permit through the Hawaiian Film Office. Local Maui photographers typically already have this permit, as they shoot in Hawaii year-round. This permit is additional to the special use permit you and your spouse will need to get.
